Which Brush? Where? How?
Your complete breakdown of everything you need to know when it comes to your makeup brushes.

Why do I need makeup brushes?

Most makeup artists and cosmetics companies ask the important question: Why spend good money on makeup and use poor tools to apply it? A good makeup brush can create a flawless look.

Haokey Brush stocks a complete collection of makeup artist-tested brushes for the ultimate in luxury, durability, and craftsmanship. Each individual makeup brush is hand crafted from top-quality natural and synthetic fibres.

What is the difference between Natural and Synthetic Brushes?
Synthetic Makeup Brush Bristles
Synthetics are man-made of either nylon or polyester filaments. They can be tapered, tipped and flagged to ensure correct pick up and placement of colour. Often, synthetic hairs are dyed and baked to make them softer and more absorbent. The common filament are taklon and nylon. Advantages of synthetic brushes are:

1: They are less prone to damage from makeup and solvents.

2: They are easier to keep clean than natural hair brushes because the filaments don't trap or absorb pigment.

3: They are better suited for for soft layering of powders or cream color and concealer.

4. They are usually more Eco and vegan friendly.

Synthetic brushes are used in application of liquids, creams and gels. They are densely packed brushes and apply a heavier application than a natural bristle. Ie. foundation brush

Natural Makeup Brush Bristles
Various types of natural materials include squirrel hair, badger hair, horse hair and kolinsky hair. Hand stacked in place for various shapes and sizes. Natural bristles are used for layering of color with a variety of touches – from very soft (squirrel) to firm (badger).

Natural bristle brushes are generally used for application of powders. They apply in softer layers gradually adding definition and colour. ie. blush or eye shadow brushes.

So what kind of brushes do I need?
Make Up Brushes come in many shapes and sizes and each kind of brush has different advantages and disadvantages depending on your intended use. It's a good idea to include various types of brushes in your make up kit, giving you a variety of tools for different looks.

The right brush set can not only save time in creating the right look, but expand the range of looks at your disposal. The key to makeup is blending, for which you need decent makeup brush tools. A specific brush is made for a specific task. Look at your makeup collection. Look at your routine. Then, decide which makeup brushes will help you make the most of your unique features.

Why are my brushes shedding?
It’s normal for the brushes to shed some hairs in the first few uses, especially large powder brushes. When you receive your brushes, we recommend carefully washing with shampoo and leaving the brushes to lie flat on an absorbent surface to dry. After washing and a few uses, they will stop shedding hairs and be perfect for precise makeup application.

Please note; do not dry your brushes with a hair dryer, hand dryer or a radiator. This will cause the hairs to melt or Synge which will result in a short life line, distorted brushes and uneven make up application.

How do I store my brushes?
Never store brushes so that bristles are bent backward or out of shape. Never keep brushes upside down in a cylinder or brush holder. If you purchase a cylinder keep brushes upright in the cylinder at all times. This will ensure they keep their shape. Other alternatives are keeping them in a brush roll, brush wrap or even in a glass or a vase.
